Testing requirements

The test should be carried out at an ambient temperature of 20℃±5℃. Place the fully charged battery on two planes, and the extrusion pressure is 13KN±0.78KN, perpendicular to the direction of the plate. Once the pressure reaches the maximum, the extrusion test can be stopped. During the test, the battery is qualified if there is no external short circuit, explosion, or fire.

  1. For cylindrical batteries, the longitudinal axis of the extruded battery should be parallel to the two plates of the extrusion device.
  2. Only the wide side of the battery is squeezed for square and soft-pack batteries.
  3. For button batteries, the upper and lower planes of the battery are parallel to the flat plate during the extrusion test.
  4. High-temperature resistant steel needle, steel needle (needle tip angle 45°~60°, smooth needle surface, no rust, oxide layer, and oil stains), penetrate at a speed of (25±5) mm/s from the direction perpendicular to the battery plate. The penetration position should be close to the geometric center of the punctured surface. The steel needle stays in the battery and observes for 1 hour.

Battery Nail Penetration Test Machine Features

  1. The wire is enclosed with a metal fire-proof cover. It is available to prevent the flame during the testing process.
  2. The lighting system is designed to observe the internal testing process.
  3. Nail Penetration/Crush Velocity with a controllable range of 10~80mm/s.
  4. Nail Penetration/Crush Force is controllable from 250N to 13KN.
  5. Wire hole provides a possibility to test internal temperature or air pressure. A vent hole with an air blower can discharge the exhaust air.
  6. The control system employs an independent control cabinet separated from the test chamber at 1-2 meters. So it can reduce the noise and improve safety.
